Public Records Request Policy

Paideia Academies Inc.

Purpose

Paideia Academies Inc. is committed to transparency and compliance with Arizona’s public records laws. This policy is established in accordance with A.R.S. § 39-121 et seq. and specifically complies with A.R.S. § 39-171, which governs how public records requests are accepted and processed.

Definition of Public Records

Public records include all books, papers, maps, photographs, or other documentary materials—regardless of physical form or characteristics—made or received by Paideia Academies Inc. in connection with the transaction of public business.

How to Submit a Public Records Request

Requests for public records must be submitted in writing using one of the following methods:

Each request must include the following, per A.R.S. § 39-171(A):

  • Requester’s name
  • Contact information (email or mailing address)
  • A description of the records requested with enough detail to enable identification
  • Whether the request is for a commercial or non-commercial purpose

Processing Requests

In accordance with A.R.S. § 39-121.01(D)(1):

  • Records will be provided promptly upon request unless they are exempt by law.
  • If a delay is necessary, Paideia Academies Inc. will respond within 5 business days acknowledging receipt and providing an estimated date of availability.

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 39-171(B):

  • The school will provide a status update within 10 business days of receipt if the records have not yet been produced.
  • This update will include one or more of the following:
    • A description of when the records will be available
    • An explanation of any legal review needed
    • A request for clarification, if the request is unclear

Fees

Public records will be provided at no cost or nominal cost unless:

  • The request is for commercial use, in which case fees will be assessed according to A.R.S. § 39-121.03.
  • There are copying or postage charges, which will be communicated in advance.

Exemptions

Some records may be withheld or redacted in accordance with state or federal law, including but not limited to records that:

  • Violate personal privacy
  • Are protected by attorney-client privilege
  • Include student education records protected under FERPA
